Tuning up for Sankey Songs of Praise in Middle

MIDDLE Rasen Methodist Church is tuning up for their second centenary celebration event.

The Sankey Songs of Praise takes place this Saturday, February 12, starting at 7.30pm, and a full house is expected.

Ira Sankey, born in Pennsylvania USA in 1840, was a successful singer and musician who spent his formative years working with the American preacher Dwight Moody.

His hymn book, Sacred Songs and Solos, popularised numerous Christian songs and while some may not have heard of Ira Sankey, many of his songs will be familiar - The Ninety and Nine, Onward, Christian Solders, Rock of Ages and Jesus Loves Me.

There is a world wide following of Ira Sankey’s work and Saturday’s concert will celebrate these famous hymns and songs.

The programme for the evening lists solo, duet and quartet performances of Mr Sankey’s work, with the udience joining in with hymn singing.

There is no entrance charge and light refreshments will be served after the concert.
