FRESH from headlining at the Maryport Blues Festival, The Hitman Blues Band bring the rockier end of the blues to the Hope Tavern this Sunday.
The Hitman Blues Band was formed in 1989 by New York City blues guitarist Russell ‘Hitman’ Alexander.
Hitman has more than 25 years experience playing New York clubs and venues, ranging from after hours dives in the Alphabet City section of Manhattan, back when even the police wouldn’t get out of their squad cars, and late night bars in Harlem, to the Royal Ball for the Prince of Malta and the Quadcentennial for the Prince of Spain.
Nominated for the blues grammies in the US, Hitman was born to play and with real personality, as he tells stories, jokes with the crowd, proudly features his excellent band and plays a spiky guitar with great panache and soul.
Described as the real deal, with a striking charismatic personality, he has been fortunate to have played with great musicians and fantastic acts, including Johnny Copeland, Lavette Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, The Coasters, The Ink Spots, and Whitney Houston.
The Hope Tavern, Holton le Moor, gig starts at 4pm and entry is £6 on the door.
