RELIVE the age of steam and pay a visit to Gainsborough Model Railway this Christmas.
The group will be opening its doors to the public next Tuesday, December 27, from 1.30pm to 6pm.
This famous ‘O’ gauge model railway, representing the East Coast Mainline from Kings Cross to Leeds, has more than 160 locomotives, including such well known engines as ‘Flying Scotsman’ and ‘Mallard’ pulling trains such as the ‘Yorkshire Pullman’ and ‘West Riding Ltd’ and various local trains.
Visitors can also see a large selection of goods engines and rolling stock all set in the period from the 1930s to the end of steam.
The model railway is all operated to a timetable, with signals and bells as on the real railway, and members have been busy creating new scenery and station buildings at Hitchin. Admission is £4 for adults, £3 child/senior citizens and £10 for a family (2+2) £10.
The GMRS is can be found in Florence Terrace, near the south end of Tesco car-park.
