Market Rasen’s one-day music festival -Our Big Gig - is fast approaching with many local musicians pledging support - and it is all free to see.

A wide variety of concerts and workshops are planned throughout the town, now all they need is an audience.

The free day of live music and activities is being organised by landlord of The Chase in King Street Brian Sankey.

He said: “It is going to be the biggest music festival Market Rasen has seen for a long time.

“I’m really excited, we’ve got lots of local groups and wonderful musicians involved, there really will be something for everyone.”

The event is part of a national initiative to bring music to communities throughout the country. Our Big Gig is taking place due to funding secured from the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and Arts Council England. Additional funding has been secured from West Lindsey District Council.

The majority of the action will be in and around Market Rasen’s Market Place and The Chase, with other concerts and workshops taking place in the Festival Hall, the Salvation Army Hall and the Methodist Chapel.

And among the songmakers taking part in the event on Saturday, July 13, is Da Capo folk group. They will be holding a workshop in the Methodist Church from 10am to 12.15pm.

Participants can join the folk group to create accompaniments to two folk songs ready to perform in the church at 12 noon.

Whether you can sing, play an instrument or want to try your hand at being a percussionist, whatever your age you will be welcome to join them for this fun session.
