NOW in its 65th year, Gainsborough Model Railway Society will again be opening its doors to visitors this Easter bank holiday.
A fine example of the model maker’s art will be on show at their Florence Terrace premises, near Tesco car park, with a unique model ‘O’ gauge of the railway line from London’s King’s Cross to Leeds Central.
The layout, which occupies the whole building, a former Victorian school, has a total area of more than 2,500 sq ft.
Even to this day the model railway is still being developed, and since the last opening in 2010 much work has been undertaken by members, including the building of a model of a new Class V1 2-6-2T locomotive, refurbishment of sleeping car coaches, updating of the colour light signalling in the Hatfield area.
Attention is now being given to developing the area around Fitzwilliam with dioramas depicting family life showing washing hanging on the lines and a children’s play area.
The model railway is open this Saturday and Sunday from 1.30pm to 6pm and on Monday from 10.30am to 6pm.
Admission: Adults £4, child/OAP £3, family (2+2) £10.
