Market Rasen Junior Brass band to blow again

Market Rasen Junior Brass Band is to reform after a break of several years.

Peter Wood of Newton-by-Toft is to start running practice sessions and is calling on children to enlist.

The Junior Brass Band originally began 20 years ago, in addition to a Senior Band but after a successful spell, stopped meeting several years ago.

Now retired, Peter is reforming the band, helped by Georgina Neale, a former Junior Band member and now a Senior Band stalwart. Several members of the Senior Band, mostly teachers, have also committed their support.

The pair have recently performed workshops at Faldingworth and Middle Rasen Primary Schools and will head to Tealby soon to invigorate a willing number of budding musicians. The Band will be open to any child in the Market Rasen area between 6 and 16 and has instruments to loan on a first-come-first-served basis. It can also supply starter musical instruments cheaply.

The first practice will be in the Bandroom, situated next to the Scout Hut behind Market Rasen Primary School in Kilnwell Road on Sunday April 12 at 5pm. Practices will be weekly.

Anyone who wishes their child to play a brass instrument and require further information should contact Peter Wood 01673 878477 or email
