Market Rasen Choral Society is getting ready for an exciting year ahead.

As well as their popular concerts, the singers will be taking part in a mammoth community project involving 13 local schools, all led by Musical Director Jeff Blewett.

The community performance of ‘Zimbe!’ by Alexander L’Estrange takes place next May.

The piece’s roots are in African music and the gospel tradition, with the songs described as ‘easy to learn and impossible to forget’.

Providing the accompaniment will be Alexander’s own Jazz Quintet, with the programme also including Bob Chilcott’s “A Little Jazz Mass”.

But before then, the singers are getting back to rehearsals for their new season.

And this will see them performing ‘The Manchester Carols’ by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy with music by Sasha Johnson Manning.

The performance will take place on Sunday December 14 at 2pm in Market Rasen Methodist Church, with soloists Laura Barnes and Adam Gouldin and a narration by Ian Hogg.

The following day, Monday December 16, the choir will lead the singing at the annual Rotary Carol Concert in the same venue.

And the choir meet for their first rehearsal next Tuesday, September 2, at 7.30pm in Market Rasen Primary School.

All ages are welcome to sing, there are no auditions, and subscription is £35 per term.
