This week’s Sunday Blues Session, July 12, at the Hope Tavern features one of the UK’s up and coming guitarists, Alex McKown with his band.
Still only 19, Alex first picked up the guitar when he was six years of age.
Alex started to listen to the artists appearing at the major blues festivals in the UK and, in 2009, met Hamilton Loomis from Texas who kindly agreed to let Alex sit in on his UK tour.
He then performed with his own band at The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne.
Alex was a finalist in the 2014 British Blues Awards for the fourth year in succession and his band has been featured on two significant albums - “The Cream of Electric Blues” and “Suitcase Full Of Blues”, alongside the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout, Robert Cray and The Royal Southern Brotherhood.
Their new album “Go with the Flow” was released in January 2014 and radio stations across the world, including the Paul Jones Show on BBC Radio 2, have featured tracks.
This Sunday’s show at the Holton le Moor venue starts at 4pm and the door charge is £8.
