Methodist Church begins six months of celebrations

One of Market Rasen’s most iconic buildings celebrates an important landmark this year.

For 150 years, Market Rasen Methodist Church has been active in the community through worship and service.

And this special anniversary in the life of the church will be celebrated with thanksgiving and fundraising for local causes.

During the six months of events, the church will be taking up offerings to support The Poplars Care Home Residents’ Fund, The Alzheimer’s Support Group and Market Rasen Scouts.

At each event during the six months of celebrations, offerings will be taken up for the fund and each Sunday, in addition to the collection for the church, there will also be an opportunity to make a contribution.

And The 150 Charity Fund got off to a flying start, with a collection of £433 at the University of North Georgia Concert last week.

Future events will see three special weekends, as well as a week-long flower festival.

Easter weekend begins with a performance of Stainer’s Crucifixion on Good Friday at 7.30pm, with a family party the next day for everyone who has ever been connected with the church.

On Easter Sunday, former Rasen Church minister the Rev Dr Liz Smith will be welcomed back for the service of Holy Communion.

The anniversary weekend begins with the flower festival on Saturday, June 1 and the church will be open all the following week.

Two services on June 2 will be led by the President of the Methodist Conference, with a celebration service on June 4, the actual anniversary date.

The celebrations culminate at Harvest, October 5 to 7, with a concert by the Divas, two Sunday services and the harvest supper and sale.
