Caistor’s Inaugural Waes-Hal Festival takes place this Sunday, January 11 in the town’s community orchard.

‘Let every man take off his hat

And shout out to the old apple tree

Old apple tree we Waes-Hal thee

And hoping thou will bear.’

The Waes-Hal runs from 1pm to 3pm at Caistor Sports and Social Club and the Community Orchard.

Samples of “homemade cider” libation will be available at the noisy traditional ceremony to bless the trees.

Take along something noisy to play or bang and join in the singing and toasting to the community orchard apple trees at this convivial, warm, happy and fun-loving event.

And why not wear a Waes-Hal hat, decorated with fruit and foliage.

The Grimsby Morris Men will also be appearing, with a performance of The Elsham Plough (or Wooing) Play.
