Walking, exploring and digging are all in store for the first week of the Wolds Archaeology Festival.
The innovative free event has been organised by community project Down Your Wold to celebrate the rich archaeological heritage of the Lincolnshire Wolds
On Monday, July 14, there will be a behind the scenes tour of Nettleton Iron Mines, starting at 6.30pm.
Booking is essential for the walk, led by Stewart Squires, Contact the Society of Lincolnshire History and Archaeology on 01522 521337.
On Tuesday, July 15, there will be a morning course at Walesby Village Hall, from 10am, looking at Archaeological methods and aims - spaces are limited; call Heritage Lincolnshire on 01529 461499 to book a place.
From Wednesday July 16 to Friday July 18 there is the chance to see an excavation in action at Caistor, thanks to Bishop Grosseteste and Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre.

The festival launches on Saturday, July 12, at Gunby Hall and Gardens, where there will be free entry and house tours, together with an opportunity to explore Gunby’s deserted medieval village site at 12noon and 2pm.
The County’s Finds Liaison Officer will also be to on hand to identify any interesting artefacts you may have collected out and about in Lincolnshire.
