De Aston hall gets set to stage a UK Requiem first

THE idea that a UK première of a choral composition would be held in Market Rasen is startling, but true.

The Choral Society will be performing the first complete performance of Rowland Lee’s Requiem in De Aston Sports Hall on May 12.

So new is the Requiem that at its first rehearsal in January, the choir did not have sufficient scores, so listened to a recording of the work, from its only performance to date, by the St Petersburg Opera, Russia.

The May concert will also feature Fantasia Lindum – a musical tribute to Lincolnshire, composed by John Gladwin.

To join the choir for this exciting venture, go along to rehearsal in Market Rasen Primary School on Tuesday at 7.30pm or call secretary Jo Johnston on 07711 395237.
