THE Playhouse Cinema (Louth Film Club) will be screening a crisp new print of an all-time great classic: The Big Sleep, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall on Monday, September 19.

Howard Hawks’s 1946 adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s first novel is famous for its sparkling dialogue and the sizzling chemistry between Bogart, as Chandler’s legendary private detective Philip Marlowe, and Bacall, playing the elder daughter of Marlow’s client, looking to solve a tangled case of blackmail.

The Big Sleep is in black and white, Certificate 15.

The show starts at 7.30pm.

Non-members are always welcome at Louth Film Club’s screenings, paying the normal Playhouse ticket prices (£5.70 or £4.50 concessions).

Links to trailers for The Big Sleep and other forthcoming films can be found at along with screening dates and details. You can also pick up the club’s free 2011/12 printed programme from Off The Beaten Tracks record shop at 36 Aswell Street, Louth (closed on Thursdays) or in Louth Library, the Playhouse Cinema or the Tourist Information Office.
