A colourful mix of horticulture and the arts will celebrate the work of volunteers and the communities involved with Grimsby in Bloom.
The second ‘Bloomfest’ takes place at Grimsby Minster on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, from 10am to 6pm.
And this year, the Grimsby in Bloom committee has been successful in gaining an Awards for All grant of £9,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to assist their efforts throughout 2014/2015.
Bloomfest is a free event for all ages and will be bountiful with colour through various horticultural, wildlife, environmental, healthy living and craft exhibitions and stalls.
Budding and seasoned local musicians including Sunny and Boo-Boo, Merlin’s Keep, Moll Amour and Amy Naylor will be keeping the crowds entertained throughout the day.
The Earthbound Misfits will be bringing gardening characters to life, poet in residence Maria Garner will be delighting audiences with her take on Grimsby in Bloom and Moonfruit Stories will be watching the children grow with excitement with ‘The Great Nut Hunt’ an ecological tale.
Arts and crafts sessions will include graffiti artist Lyns, who will be bringing her own garden to life in the form of a public participation mural.
And headlining the event day and on hand for tip top horticultural advice will be the leading garden expert Nick Hamilton, son of the late Geoff Hamilton who presented BBC’s Gardeners’ World for many years. Nick will take you on a personal and amusing journey through the story of the Barnsdale garden and will be sharing his extensive knowledge of gardening and horticulture with plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
“We want this event to really showcase the social, economic, environmental and transformational impact that ‘In Bloom’ brings to the region,” said Elaine Atkinson, Chair of Grimsby in Bloom.
