Local residents welcomed the opportunity to join the congregation of members of the Witham Group of WIs who travelled to East Barkwith for the annual carol service, held this year in St Mary’s Church.
The nine well-known carols were interspersed with Bible readings, poems and prose, all with a Christmas theme, presented by members of the eight branches.
Mary Jordan welcomed the congregation and Veronica Chamberlin accompanied the singing at the organ.
The collection has been shared between St Mary’s Church and the Children’s Society.
Miss Jordan led the final prayers and gave the blessing, before those present were invited to the village hall for coffee and a mince pie, which had been donated by the East Barkwith members.
Again it was a full house with more tables and chairs having to be put up hastily as visitors began to fill the hall.
