The streets of Market Rasen will be festooned with art installations as a month-long festival gets under way in the town.

Plank 2013 will see diverse exhibitions by independent artists from across the county in a range of unusual places and spaces.

The festival runs from February 2 to March 2 and is a spin-off from the Portas Pilot win, with £10,000 being awarded from the Arts Council England.

“The arts and craft festival will be a celebration of Market Rasen’s assets and qualities,” said Sarah Lamballe, volunteer director of community, arts and culture with MR BIG, who is organising the event.

“We have already had some really good submissions from the arty community.”

Leading the way is established community artist Carol Parker, along with early career Market Rasen artist Seb van B and emerging artist Richard Chuck, whose work is inspired by the Wolds landscape and is a celebration of the rural area’s unique assets.

“We are hoping to have a yarn bomb from the station to the market place as one of the installations,” added Sarah, who is now looking for more artists to submit work for the festival.

But time is of the essence and submissions need to be made by midnight this Sunday, January 20.

Applications should include a maximum of six images representative of work, any specific requirements and up to 500 words about you and your work.

Email submissions are preferred to or submissions can be sent to Nicola Marshall, Town Centre Manager, Market Rasen Business Improvement Group, 27
