Market Rasen Sunday XI exemplified their development squad title at the weekend as the average of the team dropped to 17 years.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Rasen side were confident of setting a challenging total for the visitors Hartsholme CC.
But the loss of Scales after only three balls put the pressure on the second wicket partnership of Keast and Fussey.
They in turn could only add 21 runs before the next wicket fell, with Rasen in need of some inspiration from the middle order to get the innings going.
However, they still found runs hard to come by until the ninth wicket partnership of Snell and Quinlan guided the Rasen total past the century mark, albeit only by two runs.
Even with a relatively low score, Rasen were hopeful their strong bowling line-up would be able to defend the total.
Solid spells from Miller and Scales restricted the run rate and ensured that Hartsholme’s chase was slow, but with only one wicket falling in the opening exchanges Rasen were losing the battle.
An excellent spell of bowling from Megan Quinlan and Jamie Snell brought Rasen back into the game, but it was to no avail as Hartsholme went on to win the match by six wickets.
