Tealby junior tennis player, Dominic Batey, has been rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s top tennis players at the Aegon Open, in Nottingham.
Dominic has been a member of the Nottingham Ball Crew for the last six years and this year’s competition saw the likes of David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez compete to be champion.
He has previously been on court with rising stars Nick Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic and Queens Club finalist Kevin Anderson, the current world number 17.
A total of 200 children took part in the initial selection process with 90 chosen for the event including Dominic who has been selected as a team leader.
“I have always wanted to ballkid for the top players,” Dominic said.
“As a tennis player, I get to pick up lots of tips from watching the players and it’s a great feeling knowing you have taken part in a special event such as this.”
Joy and John Purkiss, from Tealby Tennis Club, will be watching the tennis from the grandstand on one of the competition days this week.
Joy said: “It will be interesting as a spectator watching top level tennis knowing one of our junior players is on the same court.
“The club are proud of his achievements.’
The event started last Saturday and runs until finals day on Saturday at Nottingham Tennis Centre.
