Market Rasen Second XI seal crucial win over Clee Town

Market Rasen Second XI entered Saturday’s match against Clee Town Laportes with no win in seven matches and desperately needing full points to have any chance of chasing down promotion.

On a scorching day at Rase Park, the home team won the toss and elected to field first.

Opening with the usual pairing of Dan Clarke and Liam Entwistle, Rasen struggled to find the early breakthrough, but Clarke claimed the first two wickets in quick succession to leave the visitors on 42-2.

Clee’s top order all looked comfortable at the wicket, but bowling changes from captain Sam Williams brought wickets from Rory Miller and the in-form Jamie Snell.

With support from Williams, Rasen took six wickets for less than 50 runs, Clarke and Entwistle returning to put the skids under tail as the visitors finished on 153-9 from their allotted 45 overs.

Clarke took his season wicket tally to 37 with a phenomenal economy rate of 3.60, while the resurgent Jamie Snell made it 13 wickets for the season.

Rasen began their run chase nervously as Aaron Wells failed to trouble the scorers, leaving the home side on 2-1.

But the hosts had little to worry about as a 94-run partnership from Tom Bradford and Dale Chambers all but won the game.

Building a patient innings, Bradford scored 35 from 87 balls, leaving the powerful hitting of Chambers to seal the game and the points for Rasen.

Accumulating a total of 13 fours and two sixes, the Rasen batsman played his way to a well-deserved 99 from 100 balls, and unlucky not to reach his century.

Chambers also shared a 60-run partnership with Ian Williams as they saw Rasen across the finish line with nine overs to spare.

A great win which puts them right back in contention at the top of Lincolnshire County League Division Three.

On Saturday, the Second XI travel to Hibaldstow for a crucial fixture.
