Market Rasen CC Second XI ended their season with a short trip to Nettleham in the final game of the Lincs County League Division Three season.

Unsure of the promotion procedure for 2015, Rasen travelled believing they could still go up to Division Two should results go their way.

Winning the toss, Nettleham fielded first and put Rasen under pressure from the off.

The opening pair of Stephenson and Bradford collected 15 runs before the latter fell.

Unable to find a batting partner in the top four, Stephenson lost his wicket on 15 with Rasen on 27-3.

Another disappointing display from the Rasen batsmen allowed the Nettleham’s bowlers to blast through the middle order, and only a defiant unbeaten 14 from Sam Williams pulled the visitors through to a score of 67 all out from only 32.3 overs.

With a small total to defend, Rasen made a valiant attempt to rescue the game.

Opening bowlers Clarke and Entwistle, who have rarely failed to collect wickets this season, couldn’t find a breakthrough in the opening six overs.

Wickets from Williams, Freeman and Quinlan had Nettleham three down before an exceptional two wickets in successive balls from Jamie Snell.

But Nettleham eased to victory inside 20 overs to seal a five-wicket win and earn promotion and resign Rasen to another season in Division Three.
