Brigg Hockey Club Men’s 1st team finished their North League Division 2 fixtures on a disappointing note going down 5-1 to Sheffield University Bankers away.

Brigg’s only goal came from captain Ben Treadgold early in the second half. The skipper picked up the ball in his own half and went round several defenders before netting.

It was the only bright spot of a display that ended the season on a frustrating note. Overall though Brigg are well pleased with their campaign that sees them finish in the top half of the table, their best season in the North League after promotion from the Yorkshire Premier League.

Brigg’s previous encounter saw them draw 1-1 with Doncaster, Liam Redmond being the scorer with a shot into the roof of the net. Doncaster got on level terms with a late short corner conversion. Brigg also won a re-arranged Sunday fixture with North Shields 3-2. This was a close encounter with the Newcastle area side who also lie mid table. Andrew Reid with two goals and Zac Meadows were the Brigg scorers.

Brigg Men’s 2nd team lost 4-3 to Sheffield University Bankers. David Baggott and Joe Hastings were the Brigg scorers. Brigg have been fighting hard to avoid relegation from Yorkshire League Division 2. Their fate still remains in the balance with several of their relegation rivals still with games to play.

Brigg Ladies 1st team had two matches to finish their season going down 1-0 to Leeds University and by a 4-2 margin being defeated by Dewsbury. Corinne Maddy and Lowis Hayes were the Brigg scorers in this game, Corinne being given the ‘Dame of the Game’ accolade.
