HOCKEY: A case of won one, lost one for Brigg Men

Brigg Hockey Club Men’s 1st team won the first and lost the second of their most recent matches in the North League Division 2.

In their first game, Richmond from North Yorkshire were the visitors and with both sides now comfortable in mid-table there was little at stake in terms of promotion or relegation.

Andrew Reid, Zach Meadows and Harry Cadwallader got the Brigg goals and with Liam Redmond, showing an uncanny ability to hold the ball up well, there was always going to be danger to the visitor’s defence. In the end Brigg ran out comfortable winners against a side they had lost easily to before Christmas.

The 1st team then made the relatively short trip to arch Humberside rivals Driffield and lost 4-3 in a close encounter.

This was definitely a game of two halves as after a sluggish start Brigg were 3-0 down at half time. In a determined second half fightback Brigg almost got level with their hosts, goal scorers in the revival being Oliver Reid, Liam Redmond and George Martin.

The weather has played havoc with other Brigg fixtures with clubs in South and West Yorkshire being worst hit by snow and ice.

Brigg Ladies 1st team saw their game at University of Leeds postponed, though the 2nd team like the Men’s 1st did get in a game with Driffield, which they won 4-0 at Brumby Hall.

The Men’s 2nds played fellow strugglers Worksop 1st team in Yorkshire League Division 2 and went down 4-0 in a disappointing result, which leaves them perilously close to relegation in third from bottom place.

Brigg 3rds continued their fine form with a 6-0 win over Grimsby 2nd and the 4th team did likewise in Division 6 South winning 6-1 away against Kingston upon Hull 3rd Xl.
