Middle Rasen Cc 161 for 4 vs Woodhall Spa CC 163 for 3

Middle Rasen welcomed in a new season of Premier League cricket and a new captain, Darren Salmon, with a tough away trip to Woodhall Spa on Sunday.

Starting the day on a winning note, Salmon won the toss and promptly decided to have a bat.

He may have been left ruing this decision when Will Bradford went cheaply in the second over, but the captain, along with new batsman Tom Boryszczuk frustrated all Woodhall attempts of a second wicket until the 32nd over when Salmon went for a gritty 37.

Richard Boryszczuk (7) and T. Wray (10*) looked to move things on in the penultimate overs but it was Tom Boryszczuk (90*) who saw Middle to 161 for 4 at tea. J. Temperton (3 for 24) the pick of the home team bowling.

With the clouds moving in Middle looked to pressurise the opening batsman and it nearly paid off when opener Jack Luffman spooned one to square leg.

Unfortunately the chance went begging and Middle paid the price as he went on to score a quick 66 before Richard Boryszczuk (2 for 50) finally snared him just before the rain started.

Following the break for rain two more cheap wickets weren’t enough to stop youngster H.Wilson (44*) carrying his bat to see his team over the line and a seven wicket win.

With plenty of positives as well as aspects to work on Middle will be looking to improve and impress in the coming season.
