Yet again, strong winds were the order of the day at Market Rasen and District Golf Club when 86 players completed in the EGU Gold Medal.
Similar conditions applied for the Jones Trophy earlier in the month and these certainly suit Rick Wheeler.
Having won the Jones Trophy in the wind with the accompanying handicap cut, he played a superb round and despite the conditions won the Medal with a nett 64 by a clear five shots.
His handicap is now reduced to 17 and he now has his work cut out to achieve a hat-trick of wins this year.
Three players carded a score of 69 and count-back placed Dave Gregory in fourth place with Jack Robinson just pipping him to third.
It proved to be a very successful weekend for 13-year-old Luke Parkinson, who’s better back nine clinched second place.
The day before he won a Junior Stableford Competetion, the Ian Lacey Troph, where he scored 37 points. Luke came to the fore as a promising youngster and he is now fulfilling that promise.
Stalwart Alan Ward secured the gross prize with a round of 77.
The next competition at the weekend is the Beckett Salver, a medal competition played over two days.
