A talented air cadet is celebrating after being chosen to represent central and eastern England at a national athletics competition.
Brigg air cadet Chad Dawson is preparing to take part in the Air Cadet Corps athletics competition at RAF Cosford in Shropshire at the end of this month.
Chad won his place in the competition after gaining an impressive three gold medals at the regional leg of the competition at Saffron Road Stadium in Leicester.
The teenager, representing the Trent Wing, won gold in the 100m sprint, javelin and boys 100m relay race, breaking his own records.
And he might not be the only Brigg cadet competing in the national competition.
Katie Shackles has been selected as a reserve after winning silver in the 300m, bronze in the 800m and another silver for the team’s 400m relay.
Their medal haul helped the Trent Wing secure an ‘overall winners’ trophy.
The Trent Wing, which covers Lincolnshire and parts of Nottinghamshire, beat off competition from cadets in five other wings: Warwickshire and Brimingham, Norfolk and Suffolk, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, South and East Midlands and Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
A spokesman for Brigg Air Cadets said: “Chad will be hoping to keep hold of his record breaking medal haul when he meets later this month with fellow cadets to represent the central and east region at the Air Cadet Corps athletic competition.”
