Runners flock to Brigg Poppy 10K Race

The popular Brigg 10K Poppy Race attracted another good field of entries to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal on Sunday.

David Sedgwick (Doncaster Athletic Club) won in a time of 34min 31secs, just 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Michael Chadwick, while Winterton RC’s Andrew Holt was third in 35.05.

Gill Hoole, of Scunthorpe and District AC, was the clear winner of the ladies’ race in 40min 01secs from Gemma Bell (Barton and District AC) who was second home in 42.46. Niki Whitaker (City of Hull AC) completed the podium positions in 43.26.

There was also a military challenge where runners could choose to wear boots and carry a backpack weighing 36lb for men and 24lb for women.

Craig Barker won the men’s challenge in 43.48, and Rachel Jackson took the ladies’ prize in 64.01.
