Market Rasen 2nd XV’s match away at Paviors in Nottinghamshire was pretty much the only match to defeat the elements at the weekend.
Sadly, as well as defeating the weather, Paviors 2nd string defeated the red and greens too, running out 27-10 winners.
In thick mud, this was a battling performance by the Rasen side, which welcome Nottinghamshire Medics 1XV to Willingham Road this Saturday, 2.15pm kick off.
Market Rasen 1st XV’s match at home to Paviors on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Rasen are sixth in Midlands 1 East, but a win for Ilkeston at the weekend means they are only a single point behind the red and greens, who have a game in hand.
Fifth place Newark are within sight of Market Rasen though having lost three on the bounce.
They sit just four points ahead with a poor points difference in comparison.
Market Rasen will be looking to close that gap next weekend, weather allowing, when they travel to Peterborough 1sts, who are struggling in 13th and are without a win this season.
But, last time the two teams faced off at Willingham Road Rasen did not have it all their own way and only ran out 29-20 winners so the points are not guaranteed. This weekend may see the Paviors fixture rearranged.
Points will be welcome though as the red and greens face a challenging fixture at home to third place Bugbrooke the following week.
This Rasen outfit has proved however, that at home, and with the backs as well as the ever present front line working in unison, they are a match for any team in this league, they remain the only side to steal a victory from leaders Peterborough Lions.
The club has also just announced that it will again welcome Leicester Tigers coaches to Willingham Road this summer. There will be a tag rugby camp for U7s and U8s from August 18-20 and a full contact training camp for U9s to U16s, August 18 and 22. open to non members also.
