Jackie Parker, the new Lady Captain for Market Rasen Golf Club, undertook her first and most nerve racking task of the season - demonstrating a drive on the first tee.
A large contingent of Lady members huddled under a forest of umbrellas to witness her dive in, but, as the torrential rain showed no sign of abating, the 18 hole competition was abandoned.
To replace it, all the players assembled took it in turns to get their drive as close as possible to the Lady Captain’s ball on the fairway.
Aileen Sellars was deemed to be the closest and won a bottle of Champagne.
For the Christmas social last month, the ladies played a nine-hole Waltz competition in very icy and slippery conditions; the bonus however was that balls travelled a long way as the fairways were solid.
The winners were T Lawrence, R Bradford and S Scott with 38 points.
In second place, after a count back, was J Holborn, P Neal and S White with 36 points and coming in third were R Ross, M Dixon and L Moore, also with 36 points.
The morning had been well supported by playing and non playing members and a total of £450 was raised for the Lady Captain’s chosen charity for the 2012/2013 season - Macmillan Lincolnshire.
The course conditions proved to be even more challenging the following week for the Christmas hamper competition, when golfers had to be well wrapped up to play in the sub zero temperatures.
Winners of the brimming hampers full of goodies were V Sullivan, after a count back, with 37 points and second place went to M Dixon, also with 37 points,
The first competition of 2013 was the New Year March held on Wednesday January 2.
The March was won with an excellent score of 64 points by T Lawrence and M Dixon, both of whom are playing consistently well.
