Market Rasen and Louth RFC junior Lloyd Buck got lyrical to help win a World Cup party at his club on Saturday.
Lloyd won second prize in the Ultimate Fan Cam competition run by Canterbury Sportswear after his father Cliff sent a video of his son reciting his World Cup poem.
The under 13s player’s words earned £1,500 for the club towards food and drink, shirts and bunting to decorate the Willingham Road clubhouse. The prize also included a short video being made of the evening’s events as a packed clubhouse watched the crunch England v Australia match.
Sadly for England fan Lloyd, the 33–13 defeat saw the home nation knocked out of the competition, but a terrific evening was enjoyed.
Lloyd’s poem ‘Committed to the Game’
Its England, its 2015
We welcome you and your teams
Wear your shirt with pride cos
Captains your job is to guide
Your team to the cup of their dreams.
We love this our egg shaped ball
With it we can run pass, ruck, or maul
Show big respect
with the players you connect,
As good tackles will make them fall
Show us some really good tries
You really may need to fly
So break down the defence
But cause no offence
As rugby players are really good guys
Watch the forwards hold the ball tight
Playing with all of their might
They are in it
To win it
And will put up a very good fight
