Thursday evening saw 12 anglers turn out to fish the three-hour match for the Conway Cup at the Willingham Road Lake.
The all-in shout came at 6.30pm and Dave Humphreys, fishing the feeder from peg seven, took the honours with a winning weight of 9lb 15oz. He caught just three good quality bream throughout the match for his weight.
Sam Appleyard took second, fishing the waggler from peg one to take 3lb 15oz, and third place went to Ted Goulsbra who also fished the waggler from peg 29 to catch 2lb 11oz,
* Weather conditions were changeable throughout Sunday’s six-hour Jack Marshal Cup match which formed the sixth leg of the Jackson Buildbase Aggregate Shield League.
The 12 anglers knew the match would be steady with bites at a premium, and this proved correct with the bream failing to show in their usual pegs.
At the all-in, most anglers were catching the smaller skimmers, roach, perch and rudd and this continued throughout.
Dave Appleyard proved the exception, using his pole from peg seven to catch a 6lb 4oz carp. Fishing the feeder, Dave added smaller fish to take his weight up to 8lb 7oz and win the match by a close margin.
Roy Bentley was second from peg 30, fishing the pole for 8lb 1oz, and Sam Appleyard completed the top three, fishing the waggler from peg three to net 6lb 11oz.
The eight points for third place strengthened Sam’s lead in the league, sitting top with 51 points, followed by Bud Chambers with 38 points and Mick Manning, in third, with 36 points.
