A BUSY season of play has been had so far this year by the ladies of Owmby Golf Club.

They started the 2011 Golf season on Monday, March 28 with the incoming Lady Captain’s Charity Drive-in day. Lis Marsland, the new lady captain, led them off in a nine hole four ball better ball competition.

Thirty six members and guests took part in the day, which got under way with a shotgun start. £338 was raised during the day, which started off Lis’s chosen charity, LIVES, in great style.

The winners on the day were Di Warburton and Beryl Jackson.

In April, the Ladies joined the Owmby men for a fun day, taking part in a game of Texas scramble.

Later on that month the Ladies enjoyed their annual weekend away at Forest Pines.

On Thursday, May 12, the Ladies hosted the friendly match against Coningsby Ladies, with Owmby taking the honours. The return match is at Coningsby next year, so Owmby will be set on defending our title.

The Spring Cup on May 16, a stableford competition over 18 holes, was won by Judy Phillips with 44 stableford points. In second place was Ruth Anyan with 36 stableford points.

Into summer and the June monthly medal, played on Monday, June 6, was won by Irene Hair with a gross score of 92 net 73. In second place was Pam Ross with a gross score of 95 net 76.

On June 13 the Ladies took part in the pairs Ping Competition. Seven pairs entered the competition and the winning pair were Noreen Bradford and Chloe Ball with 43 points. A close second were Breege Owen and Gill Gladwin with 41 points.

Noreen and Chloe will now look to progress to the final.

Owmby have approximately 20 lady members who meet regularly on a Monday morning at 9am to take part in weekly organised competitions.

Twice a month this is a medal during the season, which counts as a qualifier towards their handicaps. On other non-medal days the Ladies take part in various competitions between themselves. They also have an informal roll up on a Thursday at 12 noon.
