Brigg Hockey Club Mens 1st team cannot buy a win in the North League, but can serve up a much improved performance as they did away at Sheffield University Bankers.
Brigg began at a much faster pace than in previous weeks and strung together a series of purposeful moves through midfield. At the heart of most of the prompting was skipper Ben Treadgold.
In one neatly fashioned move Andrew Morris went close to giving Brigg the lead, but his shot went just wide.
Other chances came and went but the misses were to prove costly as the home side suddenly broke away after 15 minutes and built an attack down the flank. Loose marking saw the cross come into the circle and a deflection from close in saw a shot find its way into the bottom corner of the net.
Not disheartened, Brigg rallied and continued to make opportunities that were not taken advantage of or where the shot on goal was well saved by the Bankers’ ‘keeper.
A second goal at a short corner saw the homeside double their advantage and then defender Tom North misplaced a pass in midfield and the home side broke quickly to add a third goal.
At 3-0 the scoreline had a flattering look and though Ollie Reid went close to getting a consolation Brigg could not really find their way back into the game.
A final late home goal meant a scoreline of 4-0 in the home side’s favour and Brigg still anchored to the foot of the Diviusion 2 table.
It was a blank weekend for the mens’ teams. Brigg Mens 2nds lost to Airedale 1st team at The Pods 4-1,the 3rd team, who are riding high in the league, lost at Leeds Gryphons 6ths 3-1 and the 4th team suffered a 12-0 humbling at Hull Univsersity 3rds.
