HOCKEY: Brigg safe in North League for another season

After a season of struggle, Brigg Hockey Club Mens 1st team will be staying in the North League.

Only one club will be relegated at the end of this season from Division 2 and that will be bottom club Doncaster 2nds. Brigg are still one from bottom, but two Leeds clubs are amalgamating and so Brigg are now safe.

Brigg, after a real fightback in the second half of the season, had vital wins at Hull and Doncaster, and also at home against Richmond, as well as picking up vital points from draws.

They drew 2-2 with Leeds in their penultimate fixture, thanks to goals from Will Taylor and Andrew Reid. Brigg were twice ahead in the game, but in the end a draw was a fair reflection on a tight game. The Leeds equaliser late on was an own goal by Brigg defender Simon Dixon.

Brigg then made the long journey to Marton Furness in Durham for the final game of the 2013-14 season, going down by 4-1. Ben Treagold scored the Brigg goal with a clean strike at a short corner to give Brigg their consolation against a rugged side.

Brigg Mens 2nd won 5-1 against bottom side Huddersfield Dragons 3rd with goals shared between Dave Baggott, Matt Beaker, Andrew Norris and Danny Clay. This leaves them fourth in the Yorkshire Division two.

Brigg 3rds won 2-0 away at Leeds 6th while the 4th team had a 3-1 home win against Adel 7th, goals coming from Sam Roberts (2) and Adam Storr.
