Brigg Hockey Club Men’s 1st team followed up their 3-2 win over bottom of the table Doncaster with a 7-0 thrashing of Richmond at The Pods.
It was their biggest win of the season and it meant a much better return from the past four weeks for the side, with three wins from four games.
Richmond had clearly travelled badly from their distant North Yorkshire base and were under the cosh from the push back.
They found a Brigg side under acting captain Ben Treadgold suddenly brimmimg with new found confidence.
Brigg hit them from the off with striker Nick Sharp scoring two early goals. This was quickly followed by a brace from Andrew Morris, his goals coming from a crisply taken shot and a neat deflection. The goals gave Brigg a 4-0 half time lead and a decent cushion against any Richmond fight back.
Richmond offered little after the interval either and were in fact to only get in four shots in the whole game on the Brigg goal.
Andrew Reid got into the scoring act with a second half hat-trick and the 7-0 winning margin reflected a very one sided game.
Brigg though will take the points gladly and they have now a total of 10. Two sides are officially relegated at the end of the season, but with clubs relegated from North League 1, the division above, now looking likely to be all north west sides, there is a chance that the North League might only relegate one side from Brigg’s league at the season’s end.
This Saturday sees a full programme of fixtures for the club. Brigg Mens 1st team travel to play Huddersfield Dragons, the 2nd team play at home against City of York 3rds, the 3rd team play Kingston upon Hull 4th away and the 4th team play high flying Lincoln 2nds at home in Division 6 South.
