Golf: Home quartet in waltz to victory

Market Rasen Golf Club Ladies Section hosted a new open competition in the guise of an ‘Open Spring Waltz’.

The winner was the home team of Bridget Holmes, Aileen Sellars, Jackie Parker and Rosemarie Lawton with 76 points.

In second were T Galloway, B Foster, C Stothard and L Liu from Belton Woods on 74 points.

In third, another home team of Jenny Brundle, Kim Robinson, Helen Wilson and Joy Purkiss on 71, who beat fellow home team of Jane Salt, Ruth Anyan, Di Newton, Barbara Laing, also on 71, into fourth place on count back.

Longest Drive, Bronze, was Carole Stothard of Belton Woods and longest drive, silver, Bridget Holmes of Market Rasen.

Nearest the Pin was Noreen Bradford of Kenwick Park.

The St George’s Day fantasy golf competition, dressed all in red and white to mark this patriotic occasion, was won in style by Marilyn Tompkins on 41 points, with Ronnie Sullivan in second on 38 and Joy Purkiss third on 37.

The Abraham Trophy saw a win for Joy Purkiss with a score of 41 and earning another handicap reduction to 24.

In second place was Vice Captain, Helen Grinham with 38 and third Margaret Rylatt on 37, from Sue Borthwick, also 37, on count back.

And the A League Team started their campaign with a halved match away to Ashby Decoy.
