George team suffer first league defeat in two years

An incredible night of pool action took place on Thursday night in the renowned Caistor, Market Rasen and Binbrook Pool League.

Plucky outsiders the Crown Inn have leapt to an early two point lead after dealing out a thrashing to the unknown quantity of the Market Rasen Social Club 7-2.

Other big news to emanate from the night’s events was a shock result at the George Inn as the leagues dominant lost 5-4 to a resurgent Hope Tavern, including Garry Fawcett returning to form to help the Hope to a 4-0 win, the first defeat the George have suffered in two years.

It is by no means a disaster for the George with a powerful line up of stars at their disposal only two points away from the summit, although it remains to be seen how they will respond this week when they face
opponents from (literally) across the street, with the absence of Sam Bennett, a seemingly disillusioned Bertie Baxter and an out of favour Dave Smith.

The Plough and Lightning bar have swiftly established a
rivalry set to go on for the
foreseeable future, a team once united is now divided across two pubs and the first instalment in the battle of the former allies ended in a 6-3 victory for the Plough.

Richard Trusler will have
to pick his boys up for the
return fixture to ensure that they can prevent a devastating double from his former comrades.

Finally, a solid start was continued by the Aston Arms B as they take an early second place with a comfortable 6-3 victory over the Click’em B.

Back to back losses by the Click’em B leaves them with a not devastating tally of six points to start the season, but they will be desperate to get a win to their name next time out against the Plough Inn, Binbrook.

The bye for the week went to the Click ‘em A.
