PUPILS from Market Rasen’s De Aston School will represent Lincolnshire at a regional basketball competition.
The talented team won the under 14s boys basketball tournament at a school games competition in Grantham. The boys will now represent the county in the regional tournament next month, playing against qualifiers from Nottinghamshire.
Lincolnshire Sports Partnership’s basketball development officer Lucy Willets was impressed by the quality of players at the competition.
She said: “The standard of basketball in the under 14 boys final was brilliant. There were some very talented players showing some excellent skills which meant it was a close competition.
“The teams were enthusiastic and supportive of each other; a pleasure to see.”
About 50 people took part in the competition with teams from Market Rasen, Lincoln, Boston and Sleaford.
Lincolnshire Sports Partnership’s school games project officer Gareth Short said: “All of the teams in the under 14 competition were fantastic – it was great to see so many schoolchildren taking part and having fun.”
School games competitions will be taking place across Lincolnshire in a variety of sports.
The programme of events will culminate in a multi-sport festival in Lincoln on Wednesday, June 27.
