The Bank Holiday weekend was busy at Market Rasen Golf Club with all three days having competitions.

The Men’s Medal Beckett Salver took place over 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday with more than 60 players taking part.

After the Saturday round, Phil Clifford was in the lead with an excellent nett 66 with Liam Beardsley and Paul Baker one shot behind him.

However, none of them could repeat the form on Saturday and it was left to Bob Davison, 67, Dave Ashworth, 68, and Adrian Bower, 69, to fill the first three places on the day.

When the two rounds were added together, Grant Hinchliffe came third with a nett 139 with Bob Davison beating him into second place on count back.

Dave Ashworth’s Saturday round of 69 and Sunday’s 68 was good enough to win the Salver by two shots. Roy Knowles was as consistent as ever to take the gross prize with 148.

The club qualifying round for the Bader Trophy, a mixed greensome competition, was held on Bank Holiday Monday.

The much needed rain duly arrived on the day making playing conditions tricky. John Boulton and Jenny Brundle took third place in this Stableford Competition with 39 points.

For most of the afternoon, Stuart Britton and Sue Lambert were in the lead with 40 points until the last two pairs came in.

Robert Crow and Gill Kent recorded an excellent score of 42 points to go through to the regional final.

Ironically, this will also be played at Market Rasen in August and they will have to forego two points off their score to take into account home advantage.
