Brigg dominate at Boston Spa

Boston Spa 1-3 Brigg

BRIGG Hockey Club men’s 1st team made the long journey to Boston Spa and took time to settle.

They took the lead through Andrew Dixon who managed to convert a short corner after good work by Andy Reid. Brigg added a second with an opportunist goal from Andy Reid.

Boston Spa pressed after this and started to make chances of their own, but to no avail.

As half time grew closer, Brigg had control of the game and retained the ball well, however with one wayward pass after a heavy tackle on Harry Cadwallader, Boston Spa, managed to break away and score a goal somewhat against the run of play.

Half time came, and following some intense motivational words from the Brigg skipper, Andrew Dixon, Brigg went out to put the game to bed.

Brigg managed to keep the pressure on and earned another short corner, despatched again by Andrew Dixon, this time following a huge deflection from an advancing defender’s hand, which caused the ball to loop up and over the keeper, only to land on a ducking defender on the line and fall onto the backboard.

With the score at 3-1, Brigg stood firm and were adamant not to concede further. Brigg hung on for their 3-1 win.

Brigg 2nds went into their game with Lincoln Roses looking to add to their only point of the season so far.

Roses won 5-0 however to cement Brigg’s place at the foot of the table.

Brigg 3rds took on newly promoted Adel 6ths at Leeds and maintained their 100 per cent record in Div. 6 with an 8-1 win.

Brigg 4th team started well against Rotherham 4th Xl with Richard Eagles scoring an early goal to give them the lead early in the match. Brigg won 6-4, their third league win of the season.

Brigg Ladies 1st team made the long journey to York. Brigg went in at half time 1-0 up, but were outplayed in the second half and lost 4-1 with Fiona Nation as player of the match for a good defensive display.

The ladies 2nds got their third win of the season at home against Sheffield Hallam 4s.

The game ended in a tremendous 4-1 Brigg win. Brigg Ladies 3rd X1 travelled to Lincoln Roses and had a fine 6-1 win.
