MARKET Rasen Ladies’ Captain Bridget Holmes and her partner Aileen Sellars met Ann Todd and Hefina Brumpton in the final of the Gemini Trophy.

This was the culmination of a competition which began last October and involved five league matches and then playoffs from the quarter finals.

In glorious conditions, Bridget and Aileen immediately went two up, but Ann, nursing a back strain, and Hefina steadied the buffs and they were all square after six.

Hefina capitalised on her shot to halve the 7th and Ann made a brilliant birdie on the 8th to go one up.

Not to be outdone, Bridget birdied the par five 9th to end the front nine all square.

The back nine was a different story, with Bridget and Aileen piling on the pressure.

All holes were down to the final putt, but they won five of the next six to run out eventual winners by four and three.

The Gemini Trophy was presented to the Ladies Section of Market Rasen and District Golf Club in 1995 by twins Ruth Hayes and Monica Vergette, and Bridget and Aileen, having been runners-up last year, are especially proud to have won this trophy in this the club’s centenary year.

Division 1 (handicaps 0-25) of the Winter Eclectic competition was won by Gill Kent, with nett 60.3. Ann Todd, nett 62.5, was second, and Ronnie Sullivan , nett 64.2 was third.

Division 2 (handicaps 26-36) was won by Sue Archer, with nett 65.1, with Chris Joyce second, with nett 67.2, and third was Helen Wilson with nett 67.9.

Prizes for the Gemini Trophy and the Winter Eclectic were presented at the Ladies’ spring social dinner which was well attended.

The after dinner speaker was Richard Crompton, who retired as Lincolnshire’s Chief Superintendent on April 1. He gave an entertaining talk about his career in the police force from when he joined the Metropolitan Police in 1976.
