Wragby athlete Keiran Gillespie has started the season in impressive style.
The teenager competed at Grantham in the Lincs league for Lincoln Wellington in the 800 metres, discus and javelin. He ran 2 minutes 31.9secs in the 800, a personal best by over two seconds, then threw 22.35 metres in the discus for another personal best.
Finally, he recorded 22.45 metres in the javelin – another personal best.
A couple of days later, Keiran competed at the district schools trials in Grimsby, coming third in the 800 metres just outside his best in very windy conditions/
He won the shot putt with a personal best of 8.11 metres.
Keiran is the son of Jim Gillespie who is the holder of a number of Irish records but is currently sidelined by an early season injury.
Jim is delighted with Keiran’s form, adding: “It’s been a very good start. Keiran has trained extremely hard all winter and more importantly it’s been consistent so I’m looking forward to what he is going to produce this year.”
