ANGLING: Low scoring start to Market Rasen cup competition

Sunday saw Market Rasen Angling Association members fishing the first leg of the 12 match series for the Jackson Builders Merchant Summer Aggregate Shield and Ted Mann Cup.

At the Willingham Road Lake 13 members made it for the 8am draw, and with the weather having turned cooler and rain the previous evening all agreed that it would be a low scoring match weight wise, and after five hours of fishing this proved so.

Andy Labaj, fishing the waggler from peg 2, won the match by the narrowest of margins from Joe Kelham on peg 6 and Dave Appleyard peg 18, who tied for second place. Andy weighed in with 2-12-0, and Joe and Dave both weighed in with 2-11-0.

So after the first leg Andy tops the league with 10 points from Joe and Dave both on 9 points.

The next match at the lake will see the members fishing for the Renal Cup, which is also an open match and a charity competition where monies raised will be donated to the Lincoln Renal Unit.
