Sunday saw members of Market Rasen Angling Association gather for the annual Mayfayre trophy that starts off the summer programme of fishing matches.

13 anglers made the 8.30am draw for the six-hour match, and with plenty of fish showing all week in the lead up to the match the weather took a dramatic turn with a strong easterly wind blowing throughout the match, the anglers all knew that they were in for a hard match.

Most anglers had to wait for bites to materialise and this continued throughout the entire match. One angler Andy Labaj fishing the waggler shallow from peg 29 mastered the conditions to weigh in at the end of the match with a winning weight of 5lb 2oz.

Second spot and just missing out by 2oz went to Dave Humphreys fishing peg 19 on the feeder with 5lb 0oz.

The final payout place was taken by Barry De’Ath fishing the feeder and pole with a weight of 4lb 9oz from peg 3.

The next match on Sunday May 11 will see the anglers commence with the Jackson Buildbase Summer Aggregate Shield. Draw: 8am, fish: 9am-2pm, match fee £5.
