Market Rasen Under 15s preserved their unbeaten league start and stayed top of the Grimsby and District Youth League with their fourth win of the season.

They welcomed league favourites Cleethorpes A to Rase Park for a midweek fixture, and on winning the toss, the visitors put Rasen into bat.

The home side lost two early wickets as Adam Cook and Mark Bedford were bowled by Cleethorpes seamer Tom Rollinson.

But opener Nick Keast and Rory Miller then put Cleethorpes to the test as they played their way to a fantastic third wicket partnership of 82.

Retiring unbeaten on 40, Keast was replaced by the big-hitting Connor Janney who smashed his way to a brilliant 30 from 18 balls which included four boundaries and one big six.

Rasen were in the driving seat as they closed their 20-over innings on 137-2, but facing a strong Cleethorpes line-up, the game remained in the balance.

The visitors started well, putting on 44 for the first wicket before Miller captured his first wicket.

Two more partnerships set Cleethorpes on course for victory before Rasen began to restrict their scoring opportunities.

Excellent bowling from Keast, Megan Quinlan and Miller, among others, frustrated Cleethorpes and left them 15 runs short as they closed on 122-2.
