A stunning nine-wicket haul from Daniel Clarke helped Market Rasen Second XI to a dramatic Lincolnshire County League win over Barton Town on Saturday.
Clarke took 9 for 29 in 15.5 overs to almost single-handedly bowl out the visitors and earn Rasen a 20-run win in a low-scoring match at Rase Park.
The result lifted Sam Williams’ side up to third in Division Three with one game of the season left.
Barton won the toss and gave Rasen first bat, a decision which bore fruit when openers Lee Freeman and Tom Bradford were removed by Will Yates (3 for 32) with just one run between them.
Ian Williams held the innings together, top scoring with a patient 41, but Clarke was the only other batsman into double figures as Billy Wright (6 for 25) tore through the middle order and tail.
Three of Wright’s victims came courtesy of Barton wicket-keeper captain Ian Andrew who claimed four catches in total as Rasen were skittled for just 95 in 36 overs.
Sam Williams struck first in the Barton reply as he had opener George Short caught by Tom Bradford for six, but a second wicket partnership between Andrew (22) and Alan Sanderson (17) seemed to have laid the foundations for a comfortable away victory.
But now it was over to Clarke who had opened the bowling and finally broke the dangerous stand when he had Andrew caught by Ian Williams.
Sanderson soon followed, caught by Rory Miller and the floodgates were open.
Joseph Atkinson (11) was the only other Barton batsman into double figures before he was dismissed by Clarke, one of three visiting batsmen to be clean bowled.
Clarke made short work of the tail, sealing victory when he had Andrew Tester trapped lbw to wrap up the Barton innings for 75 in less than 31 overs.
