Rasen knocked out in extra time of exciting cup clash

Market Rasen 1 - 3 Ivy Tavern

MARKET Rasen Town FC hosted league leaders Ivy Tavern in a cup quarter final clash at Rase Park with the home side losing out 1 – 3 to their Lincoln League rivals in extra time.

Market Rasen played the better football for the whole game in difficult boggy conditions, with their fluent passing game. James Bennett and Joe Osbourne were commanding in the midfield for Market Rasen.

Rasen took the lead after 30 minutes following a fortunate own goal.

Dale Christie in the Market Rasen goal was then forced into making a good save to keep Rasen in the lead and John Robinson had to clear off the line.

The second half continued in much the same pattern, and Ian Williams hit a rasping drive, which went just the wrong side of the post.

It was a break away goal from Ivy Tavern however which dashed Rasen’s hopes of hanging on to their lead, meaning the game went to extra time.

In the final play of the first half of extra time, Ivy Tavern went into the lead when the striker scored with a looping header.

Rasen pushed men forward in search of an equaliser, but it was Ivy who scored late in the game to seal their 3-1 victory and send Market Rasen crashing out.
