Market Rasen Under 9’s

HBW 2 Market Rasen 1

ON a wet night Market Rasen started slowly and after 15 minutes were 2-0 down.

After 20 minutes they started to come into the game creating half chances for Flear and Watson. Five minutes before half time, a fine shot and goal from Callum Dean brought Rasen back into the game.

Just before half time two brilliant saves from man of the match Finley Boyes kept Rasen in the game. HT 2-1.

Market Rasen started the second half on top creating chances for Alex Rawden, Josh Jordan, Callum Dean and Greg Watson.

Ten minutes from time Watson hit the crossbar, but the ball bounced just short of the line. Finley Boyes made another outstanding save and Ben Flear shot agonisingly wide with seconds remaining.

With this weekend’s results, the boys have finished joint runners up, one point behind league winners Hykeham Tigers.

This is a wonderful achievement for the youngsters and all the management team would like to congratulate all the boys on a great season.

Sibsey 0 Market Rasen 7

Team: George Balmer, Benjamin Hawke, Callum Dean, Benjamin Flear (c), Alex Rawden, Greg Watson.

THERE was an emotional minute’s silence before kick off in memory of little Jack Huskisson and his mum, Verity, blew the whistle to set the game underway.

The match kicked off with Sibsey soon on the attack with good defending from stand in defenders Ben Hawke and Alex Rawden and keeper for the day George Balmer dealing comfortably with anything that Sibsey created.

Good passing football from Rasen sent Ben Flear clear of the Sibsey defence and a lovely shot from the edge of the box went flying into the bottom corner of the net.

This relaxed Rasen and they had good chances to increase their lead with Watson and Dean going close. Ben Flear then had a similar run to his first goal, but this time his shot hit the post. HT 0-1.

Market Rasen came storming out in the second half and four Greg Watson goals in 20 minutes saw them go 0-5 up.

Sibsey had a corner from which George Balmer saved well. Watson went on a run after a good ball from Rawden, his shot was saved but the ball slipped from his grasp and Ben Fear looped the ball over him for his second and Rasen’s sixth.

Seconds from the end Ben Flear was fouled in the area and won a penalty, which keeper George Balmer took and scored with a thunderous shot to make the final score 0-7.

This game was all about honouring Jack’s memory but it gave the lads a real boost to win a trophy and they were ecstatic in receiving their medals.
