Market Rasen Town 4-1 Skegness United

Market Rasen Town pulled off the surprise result of the weekend in the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League when they sealed three points at home to Skegness United.

A youthful Skegness United had previously been a force to reckon with but slipped to their sixth consecutive defeat when they travelled to Rase Park.

Rasen had scored only seven goals in the league before this fixture, but they added four through Andrew Belt, Jake Wade, Trevor Taylor and Ian Smith.

Luke Durdey netted United’s consolation.

The win does not move Rasen from their tenth position but they are now well clear of the bottom two in the league and a single point behind Nettleham in ninth.

Rasen will move above Nettleham if they can bring three points home from their journey to rock bottom Louth Town Reserves tonight, Wednesday February 25.

Louth are still without a win this season and Rasen will be full of confidence following the weekend’s result.

With fixtures to catch up on following bad weather, Rasen are then back in action away at close rivals Nettleham on Saturday.

Wins in both games could see Rasen up to eighth in the league and on equal points with Cleethorpes AKP in seventh.
