Loughborough Dynamo 1–1 Brigg Town FC
Brigg Town FC had to settle for a hard earned point in a 1-1 draw at Loughborough Dynamo.
Brigg anticipated a difficult game against a team which had scored 14 goals in their last three matches.
The task was made more difficult when the home side scored in the very first minute. After Brigg lost possession of the ball from a throw-in, the Dynamo took advantage by breaking quickly down their left wing and when the ball was played into the penalty area it was thumped into the back of the net from five–yards out.
Clearly encouraged by this early success, Loughborough put more pressure on the Brigg defenders. When Brigg began to settle, Danny Buttle was fouled outside the penalty area and then there were strong claims for a penalty kick following a handling offence.
Another left wing attack from Danny Buttle resulted in a shot from Liam Davis going just over the cross bar, but the home team continued to threaten and Miles Fenty got down well to block his attempted strike at goal.
Brigg had strong claims for another penalty kick following a second handling offence inside the penalty area on a high cross delivered from the left wing, but these were turned down.
Brigg started the second half more positively and gradually reduced the home threat.
After an hour of play the home team were reduced to ten players. Brigg took advantage of their extra man and mounted more and more attacks.
They were rewarded for patience when Ryan Paczkowski was brought down inside the penalty area eight minutes from time and he netted the spot kick.
Brigg pressed for a winner and went close when Sam Downey set up a chance for Darren Mansaram to nod the ball down to Ryan Paczkowski, whose shot went just over the bar.
Then in the final minute of the game, the home team created a glorious chance to snatch all three points, but the ball was blasted over the cross bar from the edge of the penalty area.
Brigg have a re-arranged fixture this Saturday afternoon when they take on Stamford at home.
