CRICKET: Unbeaten Woodhall Spa too strong for Owmby Sunday

Owmby’s Sunday team were once again at home this weekend where they welcomed the unbeaten Woodhall Spa.

Owmby won the toss and elected to field, but it was the visitors who started the game brighter as they managed to keep on top of the two Owmby openers.

Although Charlie Anderton took a wicket in the fourth over of the match, Woodhall Spa made it to drinks on 75-1.

After drinks Owmby managed to restrict the visitors just as they were looking to increase the run rate. Some good tight spin bowling from Will Looker, 2-34 from 9 overs and Ciaron Deegan, 5-21 from 9 overs, saw Woodhall Spa finish on 149-8 after 40 overs.

In the second innings Woodhall Spa again got off to a good start as both opening bowlers restricted Owmby from scoring.

When opener Sam Atkin went for 12 it triggered a mini collapse as captain Ben O’Brien got a hat trick for Woodhall Spa as he destroyed Owmby’s top order leaving the hosts on 14-4 after 7 overs.

However when Martyn Snell joined Neil Looker at the crease they managed to steady the ship as Owmby made it to drinks with the score on 54-4.

With the task becoming harder and harder for Owmby wickets continued to fall, with Woodhall’s spinner P. Timby taking 4-17 from 9 overs.

Only a brief partnership from Snell (28) and Daniel Clark (20 not out) made Owmby’s score a little more respectable as the hosts were bowled out for 96 just before the heavens opened.
